Cheesy Wotsits - don't like the taste of these!

Just how much do these look like Cheesy Wotsits?

Weird aren’t they? It’s a new craft craze from Germany, made from Corn with natural plant dyes – already winning awards in the UK!

Just lick ‘em and stick ‘em together!!

100% safe, eat one if you like, although they don’t taste that great!

Plus – when you are ready to throw your creation away – it’s totally biodegradable so chuck it on the compost heap.

How cool is that?
PlayMais is at John Lewis....and there are loads of competitions to win cool stuff with it up and down the UK - mail me for your local one..

I Heart New York!

No I've not actually been yet, but read a good book instead - it was cheaper!
You see Lindsey Kelk, the books author, is one of my friends, so felt obliged to buy and read the book.....actually in the exctiment of buying 'a friends book' I felt obliged, whilst standing in the queue at Tesco, to nudge people to say - my friend wrote this!!
But beahed myself somewhat and got out of the store both unscathed and unarrested. What a relief.
So local nutter got home and tucked into the book, over coffee, hobnobs and with feet up on the sofa. For a first book, its great!! Not just saying that.
It's very Marian Keyes stylee, an easy to read holiday chick lit book. No brain cells will be taxed in either solving a crime or working out long words..... very readable. The book washes over you and you get sucked in without realising it. After a few hours I really did want to know whether the sharp banker or indie music guy would win the day...very a la Bridget Jones.
I must admit to googling Marc Jacobs bags too, like I googled Jo Malone after reading 'The Other Side the Story' oh I could be an advertisers dream!
So will end today by saying - get I Heart New York if you're off on hols or in hospital for an op, its an entertaining and easy read.

Not so Smelly Pwllheli !!

When I was little, we went to Pwllheli in Wales. It rained all day and we only visited the holiday park there, and saw none of the stunning countryside or anythign like that. As typical Brits we had no idea how to pronounce the town name and attempted it as 'Perthelly'. So after our dire, wet and grim day out, it was henceforth known as Smelly Perthelly - poor Pwllheli!!
So firstly, I need to apologise to all North Welsh people!!!

Especially as I have just discovered the Celtic Herbal Company, based in.....Pwllheli. In fact you could now say Pwllheli IS very smelly !! But in the best way possible!!
I took a little trip on my laptop to lovely North Wales and went to http://www.celtic-herbal.co.uk/, where I found page upon page of lovely soaps, shampoos, body washes, balms, massage oilss and much more.

I ordered some soaps, Sweet Pea, Rosemary and Seaweed. Plus a new Organic Shower Gel in Lavender and Geranium.
Yummy! With a splendid assault on your nose, these new organic soaps and gels are pampering delights!
Each one contains essential oils and the little catalogue that comes with the order reminds you of all the properties they have - such as the seaweed soap being hydrating and helpful with skin regeneration.
The soaps are 99p for a 20g one, so you can mix and match and for under £20 try the entire range if you so wish!!
My little shower gel was £3.50 and again, totally organic. its s delightful blend of natural oils that cleanse and nourish the skin. Lavender calms and sooths any irritations whilst Geraniumis a natural deodorant and helps to balance skin oils.

As a relaxing and unwinding end to the day it's lovely!
They do fab gift boxes to buy as presents too. The Pure Baby Bathtime looks adorable, and there is a Rose Garden set for ladies, plus a Gardeners Balms for gents. The Lamb and Mint is a humourous addition to the collection too!

Hydration Overhaul

My skin was in need of an overhaul this weekend. Out in the sun all day Saturday, but with lots of wind thrown in for good measure too, my poor old skin was crying out for a treat!

Call in, Neom Luxury Organics! At £28 for 100ml it's not cheap, but once used never forgotten, and I for one will buy again, even at nearly £30!

I have the 'Real Luxury' fragrance - which has Lavender, Jasmine and Brazilian Rosewood in its scent library. Relaxing yet invigorating, ideal for day or night time use.

It sinks into the skin as you massage leaving no oiliness at all. Apparently, the body oil can also be used as a massage oil, but we've not yet tried that. The feeling is divine, when rubbed on the skin though, a real spot of luxury for yourself.

Himself commented (just as he walked in the bedroom one morning) "Oooh have you bought new perfume? It's lovely!" Just as I have massaged my Neom on my legs and arms.

Other fragrances include: Unwind - which is Bergamot, French Lavender and Patchouli and Complete Bliss with Moroccan Blush Rose, Lime and Black Pepper - which sounds gorgeous and may be just the one to try next!!

Each come with a Neom promise; that they use seriously high grade essential oils, no chemicals, parabens, PEGS, silicone, SLS or synthetic fragrances - in fact nothing nasty at all!

Check out http://www.neomorganics.com/ for further details.

A Complete Bum Saver!

As you know Himself has been on a cycling kit purchasing tour, and today’s review is all about his bum, well his new Gel Saddle Cover really.

Only £3.99 from Aldi, an ideal bottom saver. He’s been complaining of a sore bum for some time now!! Well he does do about 14-20 mile a day so what does he expect!!

So for guaranteed comfort whilst you ride, his new gel saddle cover provides instant protection and padding at a low cost.

The cover certainly doesn’t look like it only costs £3.99 ! Having an anti-slip rubber backing and draw string fastening makes it easy to attach. Plus, it’s available in size 270x260, perfect for a touring or city bike and 254x254 for a cruiser or even our large gym bike.

The gel bicycle saddle cover has certainly been a good buy for Himself, and me too cos he’s got a nice bum which needs protecting!

Yummy Scrummy moments on a tour of London

I went to London yesterday - on a media tour for work, if anyone has any blister remedies please call!!

Anyway, on the train, at 9.30am chugging along, I reached into my bag to see what I'd got, as I'd flown the house without breakfast.

I'd picked up a handful of Organic Fairtrade Bars from Boots by Tropical Wholefoods , I've never had them before and thought a trip to London would be made much nicer with a ready supply of nibbles for the journey.

Each bar is 40g and about 150 or so calories depending on the flavour you choose. Pack says they are a good source of fibre and low in salt too. I did find they were 9g of fat per 100g so not suitable for Rosemary Conley fans, but that said they were yummy.

I began by breakfasting with the Banana and Honey version, I thought the bars wold be crunchy and hard work, rather like an Alpen style bar, but they were more chewy and gooey, more like an unhealthy sweetie!! Which makes eating them even more tempting, as you think you're up to no good!

Each one is organic and the flavours I've sampled are Banana and Honey - my current favourite... Mango and Brazil, very nice but I personally probably would not buy again and Date and Walnut - this too was yummy but not as nice as the banana one!

Himself tried the Apricot and Kernel one, we're not sure what a kernel is other than the inside of a nut, but he said he liked the bar anyway and finished it off with gusto.

At 40g they're not going to fill you up all day, but just enough for a gooey snack of sweetness, so in order to keep your saintliness and polish your dieting halo, grab an Tropical Wholefoods Organic Bar instead of some choccy!!! I'm sure you're skin and general insidey bits will thank you for it!

A little excessive for my sunnies!!

I've bought a pack of Clever Cloths. £5.99 from JML - so not cheap for three fluffyish, brightly coloured cloths but OK I thought lets give them a go.

Apparently, according to the marketing you don't need any chemicals, just water and the cloth. Hmmm....OK lets believe that for now and give it a try.

They are impregnated with Silver, which is anti-bacterial, this is locked in the fabric and helps prevent nasty bugs growing. The cloths are a sort of fluffy fabric, which holds the water when mopping up spills.

I began by cleaning all the smears off my sunglasses, they were yukky, OK not a huge challenge for the cloth but they were one pair of grimey sunnies... and became 'as new!' Ooh I like these I thought, and began walking around the house, cloth in one hand and rather strange look on my face - rather like a demented Mrs Mopp.

As I attacked the dining room table and all the accompanying chairs, I was impressed - one super shiny table. I next did the mantlepiece and fireplace, followed by the glass doors on the kitchen cupboards, then the Halogen hob.... there was no stopping me.

I was rather troubled to discover the cloth had became really quite dusty/grimy, we have a very clean house, Himself is a total cleaning freak (he won't mind me saying) so dust settles in our gaf at its own peril! So was very surprised by the cloths grimy appearance indeed!

The cloths are special and need no chemicals added. So no furniture polish, kitchen cleaner or Mr Muscle needed to make these guys work! And work they do!

The pack did contain three cloths, so one is here, one is at the boat (a very good cleaning cloth for shimmying down the sides of the boat!!) and one is in the cupboard to save for when one runs out.

Oh and the colours are acid bright - so lovely!!!!

Super Aldi Bargains!

You have to go into Aldi this month! Himself is a keen cyclist, I get tired just watching him, he usually does 15-20 mile a day (he's unemployed at the minute so has got the time!) He's cycled so much in the last month or so, the poor bike has begun to fall apart!

So on needing a new back wheel, we scoured the tip!! Found a bike with a suitable wheel, paid £8 and took it home - bike mended! But what happens with you need to buy new stuff for the cycle? There's Halford's as a first choice I guess... but when we looked for the wheel it was £45 !! So Halfords is not first choice for us.

How about Aldi? Did you know they did cycles stuff? Me neither!

Today, on a little spending spree, he bought a gel saddle £3.99 !! a bike computer £12.99 and a double foot pump for only £4.99

Of course, he will be rigourously trying and testing these for your benefit, and we'll report on the site soon.

Firstly, the foot pump.....

Double Cylinder Foot Pump for just under a fiver! As a none technical female I will read from the box and tell you it has a precision analogue guage for pressure up to 10 bar, 100cm pressure hose and three adapters. Whatever that all means.

Himself likes it a lot and his bike his fully pumped up tires, as does mine, both boys bikes and even the two spare visitor bikes.... It's looks like bloomin Halfords in our garage!

The pumps main benefit is the rugged metal foot plate, Himself showed me his old pump which has sort of squished under the weight of his foot after the years of use. This one will be hard pressed to ever squish - even under a tonne truck it looks so rugged!

You know when you buy something for £4.99 and you think - this is soooo gonna not work very well? I must admit, the price made me think this - but we are both pleasantly surprised! The pump now has its own hook in the garage.

I'm hoping tomorrow's forecasted rain will stay away and he can get out on the bike to test the saddle and computer too!

The Daily Laugh more like!

Well, I have seen it all now! Check out http://www.thedailyplate.com/ "Helping you eat smarter" says the cheesy Americanism of a strapline.

I stumbled across this waste of a space website, as I had shamefully eaten a pack of Dolly Mixtures, bad me, and was trying to find out their calorie content to add to my little book of eats at the end of today. I'm trying, and failing to lose weight....

So I look up Dolly Mixtures and it says they are 90 calories per 25g. Oh dear.....Oh well too late now I think.

But....wait, what's this? The website gives you alternatives, how helpful I think... read on...

"You could try these healthy alternatives to Dolly Mixtures to consume fewer calories" and they are listed below:

Tenderstem Broccoli

Seafood Sticks

Artichoke Hearts in water

and the list continues.

What idiot compiled this list? Yes, here I am sat at my desk at work, knowing I should not be eating Dolly Mixtures but somehow have one of those sweet urges you cannot deny....you know?

So which dipstick at thedailyplate.com thinks that I will stop eating my Dolly Mixtures and tuck into a tree of Broccoli???

It beggars belief what passes as a decent website these days!

Top Saving Tips from Lee

Become a penny pincher with these top saving tips from our friend Lee Parkin at Kensington Financial Management Consultants:

Budget - Set an agreed budget and DO NOT deviate from it. If it helps, set up a simple Excel sheet to calculate all your outgoings and log every single item purchased, right down to coffees and snacks – you’ll learn a lot from this!

Plan – Make a list of birthdays, anniversaries and other celebrations and allocate a budget for gifts and parties. Set aside some cash from your salary each month so that you are armed and ready to spend. Don’t leave gift buying until the last minute, it leads to panic buying, which can be costly.

Research - Kensington Financial Management Consultants do not endorse or encourage credit cards but do understand they are sometimes required. If you can’t do without, invest some time into finding one with the lowest interest rates, with an extended interest free period and even one that provides cash back on purchases or points on things you wish to purchase.

Work – Taking a second job in the evenings or at weekends can really boost your income plus with less time on your hands you’re less likely to spend.

Switch your current account - An overdraft is one of the most convenient ways to borrow a bit of extra cash at the end of the month, but it can be expensive. A number of high street banks have recently hiked their overdraft rates - and charges for unauthorised borrowing are extortionate. Customers rarely switch their current account because they think it’s a hassle. But nowadays it’s very straightforward and your new bank will do much of the work.

Save whilst you spend - We all have our Tesco Clubcard/Sainsbury's Nectar Card/Somerfield Saver, in fact many major retailers are now offering loyalty cards, which provide a great way of saving throughout the year without actually paying out extra.

Give up something - Giving up one of your little luxuries can result in a significant saving over time. Giving up your daily latte, Friday night pizza or costly cigarettes could save a small fortune – open a savings account and add the money to it each week, that way you’ll feel extra virtuous!

Surf the World Wide Web – There are numerous websites offering voucher codes for special offers and discounts on various items from cheap meals to discount on gifts. They’re there for the taking, so snap them up! The Internet also has pages of competitions that are free to enter and you could find yourself with anything from a crate of wine to a brand new car.

Dress to impress – Host or look out for clothes-swapping parties in your area, also known as ‘swishing’. This is a cost-effective way to give yourself a quick fashion makeover and declutter your wardrobe.

Tried and tested – In your spare time you can take part in paid-for surveys or product trials – these don’t take long to do and you will usually receive vouchers or cash as an incentive for taking part. Kensington Financial Management Consultants undertake lots of surveys where respondents are entered into prize draws – if you would like to be part of their survey team please e-mail pr@kensingtonfinance.co.uk or call 0161 850 0565

Go the ‘extra’ mile – If you want to claim your place in the hall of fame, look into opportunities for roles as an ‘extra’ for local TV and film production companies – a fun and flexible way to earn some extra cash.

The Great Outdoors – You can save money by cancelling your gym subscription and taking up walking, jogging or cycling. The fresh air will do you the world of good – its great for your mental and physical well-being, and your bank account will feel the benefit too!

Save face – Research the best deals on ISAs and set up a standing order to transfer the money as soon as you are paid every month. You won’t notice it leaving your account, but you will always have a back up in case of emergencies. Remember, an ISA offers a tax free way of saving, so you end up with the full interest being added to your savings rather than giving a portion of it to the tax man.

Shopping around – The Internet makes it so easy to compare prices. Think about it, if you needed a new boiler installing you’re likely to get at least three quotes in before you decide to buy, so why should your weekly shop or annual holiday be any different? There is a multitude of price comparison websites out there that cost you absolutely nothing but can save you a great deal.

Buy in bulk - The supermarkets offer some great deals when you buy in bulk, such as ASDA offering 3 crates of larger for just £20. It makes financial sense to buy essential items, such as toilet rolls, tin foil, tea bags and washing powder in bulk, as you know these are items you will always use. Buying in bulk is by far cheaper than popping to the off license or corner shop each evening. Remember though, don’t be seduced and only buy the things you need. Plus, if you have limited storage space – shop with a friend and share out the bulk buys!

Shines like a new boat

I read a press release recently – it said “Do cruddy cookers make you queasy and soiled surfaces send a shiver down your spine? OK, so he's not a fully qualified medical GP, but Doktor Power from JML can cure almost all your cleaning ailments without the need for drastic surgery! This safe, environmentally friendly and totally biodegradable paste has a pleasant citrus smell. Doktor Power will make quick and easy work of greasy ovens, dirty hobs, messy worktops, filthy shoes, scaly tiles, grimy car alloys, dull gold and silver – virtually anything! The non-acidic and non-abrasive formula makes it the ideal universal cleaner – from kitchen to bathroom; inside to outside; windows to plastics; garden furniture to motorcycles and bikes - there’s no need for separate cleaners or elbow grease. Simply use the special applicator sponge to rub the paste in a circular motion on the desired area and then rinse with cold water or polish with a cloth, leaving almost any surface sparkling clean. Doktor Power is the answer to all those stubborn stains, marks and grime. It’s probably the best cleaning paste ever made! The good doctor is available for cleaning consultations in all major outlets now –ASDA, Debenhams, Wilkinson and http://www.jmldirect.com/ - and costs just £4.99.”

So let’s call that the science bit, and get on with product testing...

As regular readers know, we have a boat. Of late the boat has been attracting dirt like a magnet, and looked quite shabby really. We hate that !! We prefer it when the boat looks like new – of course!

I took a tub of Doktor Power to the boat, in the lid is a little scrubby cleaner, you swish this in water and dampen the white power cleaner below, before the water is added it looks like chalk, or just a hard dry piece of gunk really! When the water was added, the white goo foamed up and became a little cleaning miracle. Working on the front of the boat, was hard work, and did require elbow grease (probably on less stubborn stains and indoors it would take less work) but the results were really good!

Whilst I was cleaning I could not really see a difference, but my goodness, when I stood back – I needed my sun glasses – no kidding!

We can recommend this product – especially if you have a boat as your pride and joy!

Defrosting the freezer, what a fab job...

NOT!

Blimey I hate defrosting the freezer, trouble is the top shelf was so frozen up we would have had difficulty freezing one After Eight Mint in the gap left - that is if we wanted to freeze and After Eight, which we wouldn't as chocolate never lasts that long in this house....

Sorry I'm rambling now, it's what comes fo sitting on a sunday afternoon vegging on the sofa after Sunday lunch.

Anyway this morning consisted of cooking the lunch and then defrosting the freezer, what a busy bee I've been. Whilst said freezer was doing its bit, and generally leaking water all over the floor where I'd placed bath towels... I decided to clean all the drawers.

They now look like new! It's this new Ecover stuff I've got. I used Ecover Multi Surface cleaner, and I love it! They do actually look new now! You only need a little sprayed on too.

The stuff contains alcohol and citric acid and water and that's basically it ! So no nasties to get into the water cycle and poison the little fishies... I'm impressed with the whole range so far!

Oh he thinks he's so funny......

Are there any other women out there who would like to receive flowers from their man...but don't? Yep, I can hear you all crying YES!! now.. Himself and I have been together for a while now.

When he met my sister for the first time, he bought her flowers....when it's mother's day his step-mum gets.... flowers....When we visit friends for a dinner party he says "shall we take flowers?" But when it comes to me - "Waste of money, they die, you don't really want them do you?" So I remain bloomless, well until I go to Tesco and just drop a bunch in the trolley to buy for myself.

So what's he done today, to really take the biscuit? I'm having a hard time at work at the moment and need cheering up, so you think he's trotted off to Interflora? Broken his rule of floweres die, they never last, it's a waste of money?

Or has he, true to form, gone for the joke...

I have just opened the door to the delivery guy. And found a single red rose.... in a presentation box, and I burst out laughing!!

Why you ask?

It's a sock! Well a pair of them obviously cos one would be silly. A pair of red socks carefully crafted into a stunning red rose. What a hoot!

For a man who never buys flowers, and who likes useful presents it's great, and continues our joke together too - which of course has had me laughing with him and hugging him and generally feeling much better.

And Himself adds...."They won't die like flowers either."

For the purpose of writing on here I had to look up where they are from, which is http://www.babyblooms.co.uk/, and they are £8.00 - and totally organic too.

What more could you ask for?

New mums or their friends should also take a look at the site too. Free delivery in July ensures the budget concious can buy a fabulous bouquet for baby along the same lines. From what I can see the baby bouquets begin at £24.00 and contain not only socks, but hats, bibs baby grows etc, all moulded into flower shapes and made into bouquets with silk flowers and leaves.

What a great idea! I'm now thinking through all my friends for anyone I think may announce pregnancy news soon.... (sadly none of them) cos the photos on the site just make you want to buy one!!

Oh lordy better get offline, feeling broody seeing all the little socks and things.... logging off now!!

Thursday, 9 July 2009

I can see clearly now the smears have gone...

It's a rare moment that catches me spending money, well no I mean more money than I need to. But on this occasion its paid off. My usual window and glass cleaner is no more than a pound, but requires much scrubbing, rubbing and smear removal - you could say all in all a good work out!

So when someone recommended I try Ecover (at aroudn £2.50) I was yet to be convinced. However, with eco principles intact off I went to discover for myself.

Stop press - it works!!

My usual trick for window cleaning involves getting Himself to do it, whilst I oooh and ahhhh - you know, to encourage window cleaning prowess... It helps men to offer encouragement, especially in housework, they feel all macho and like they are looking after you.

So off he went with Ecover Window and Glass in one hand and only kitchen towel in the other, I thought there goes Mr Streaky!! Streaky for the smears on the window I mean - not like he was going to clean naked, blimey that would scare the neighbours!

Anyhow I digress... Himself was heard to say "This is the BEST window cleaner I have ever used!" Now he considers himself a bit of a connoisseur of all cleaning products... so this is high praise indeed!

Containing alcohol, citric acid and water as its main ingredients it kind to your hands, but also kind to nature and doesn't put lots of horrid stuff into the water system, which is nice. Would being 'eco' make it worth the extra money for me, well yes as it works so much better! If it worked just the same as our under £1 one then maybe I would need to think again.

The packaging makes you feel very tree huggy and planet saving, nice and plain, but expensive looking at the same time. It's nice to have the set of cleaning products all lined up in the cupboard.

....Ahhh did I say all the range lined up? Yes OK, when it worked SO well we went out and got other things in the range, can't wait to try them now!! Watch this space for more news!

Green fingers - more like black!

Phew - just spent two hours in the garden - must have worked off some calories (I hope!!)

There's an offer on at the Oundle Garden Centre - The Barn on Barnwell Road, http://thebarngardencentre.co.uk/oundle.htm - buy 4 perrenials and 5th free - YAY! So just spent a happy old time digging and planting. I've got Lavender, Lupins, Delphiniums, Holly Hocks and a big pink skiey thing I can't recall the name of!

Happy days in the sun!

My fingers are now attrocious though so if anyone knows any good nail rescue remedies let me know! I'm hoping himself will be nicely surprised by the new front garden, after all I have left him room for planting his Pampass Grass - even though I hate the stuff!

Must rush off now, really, really need to get in the bath - yuk!

Lovely PRs

Hey - we're now a little famous and a few PRs want to send in items for us to review online. It's great news that we're now getitng noticed out there and people are visiting the blog....

We do want to keep it real though and I just want to add a little note about press releases, by all means email them to us, but we'll never add a press release to the site. I want our readers to be assured that we won't promote anything we've not tried ourselves.

We do love to review stuff though, whether its found in Tesco, picked up at Aldi, discovered at the local garden centre or yes... even posted to us by a PR !! We don't mind. But we always check out the item ourselves first.

So readers be assured we won't recommend anything we don't like....

I have to say so far in the shopping sprees around Northampton my favourite product has been the Dishmatic, but if you want to suggest something you think we will like better, go ahead!!

Link !!

Arrghh....!! I tried so hard to upload this clip but giving up now, it just won't work for me - hands up who hates technology eh?

All I can do is say follow this URL and see how you get on http://www.itv.com/lifestyle/thismorning/homeandgarden/bikes/default.html

eBaying Mad!

I've gone eBay mad. There's a box in my lounge now that's overflowing with goodies, I've taken photo's of 78 items altogether, and listed about 30 so far..... See my auctions at http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/moon_scarlett So far there are lots of bids and our little total is at just over £30, but there's still 2 days to go so we're hoping for some last minute shennanigans to shake up the bidding and drive our prices up a bit!

Himself has never sold on eBay before and is very enthusiastic, especially to log in and see the 'watchers'... I hope he'll like it quite so much when I send him to the post office with armfuls of parcels!! :-)

Who needs a dishwasher?

I wouldn't normally go on about dish washing but the new 'Dishmatic' I've discovered is great! Bought in Tesco for £1.19 and I love it.

Now... I have a man who doesn't like spending money on things he doesn't have to, so buying 'a new dishwashing contraption' was not a good move, initially... especially as when you look at it, on first glance it looks like a little washing up liquid muncher. But read on...

Dishmatic has a plastic (recycled) handle, with a green end bit that has a lid that lifts off. Then there are interchangeable sponge heads with scrubby sides on them for really dirty dishes. What you do is get your Fairy liquid and fill the handle to this contraption with washing up liquid then use it as a normal washing up brush.

Simples.... as a much loved Meerkat would say.

However, Himself eyed it with suspicion. How much liquid is THAT thing going to use each time you wash up? he cried... and I admit I wondered too. We gingerly placed about an inch of washing up liquid in the handle (just incase...we didn't want to fill it all up and rsik losing the lot you know!)

The first washing up experience was great, the green scrubby sides were good for most stuff, even some burnt on sausage on a frying pan, it really went the extra mile!

But what about the washing liquid in the handle you ask? It seemed to all still be there! Yet we had bubbles in the bowl and all the greasy muck was off the dishes! So how?

Well actually we're not sure! But we both love the new Dishmatic, we know that! So far we've used it 3 or 4 times and it still appears to have the same amount of washing up liquid in it! Himself thinks its gods gift to washing up as he won't eve have to buy any more fairy...

I'm fairly certain it must use SOME Fairy but my goodness it'll last forever!!

By the way, you can also buy refill sponges to place on the same handle if you scrub so hard they wear out.

An evening of curls

Hey all, how ya doing? I've just had an interesting start to my evening. Decided to put my hair into curls, not an easy task. I have hair not only with a mind of its own but a body too.

You know I love my WAHL products - well I have the curling tongs now too. My hair is odd, it goes fluffy - do you have this problem? Not frizzy just well... fluffy...

In order to curl my hair I first have to straighten it to smooth the fluffiness out, then I can curl it to get the curls in. It's a faff and I rarely get to the curl stage, leaving it straight and fluffy free as I get bored.

However, this eve, I'm off out with himself once the kids are in bed and the baby sitter arrives - only to the local pub no where exciting, although himsefl now wonders where I think I'm off to with 'ma curly hair' !!

WAHL Curling Tongs come in different curl diameters. There are five. I have the 13mm barrel ones and they make nice loose curls. I first noticed 2 heat settings - which to be honest I whacked up to highest for the whole time, but you don't have to. There is also a tong stand built in - presumably to keep the barrel off the bed clothes when you have them whacked on full power the whole time!!

Needless to say that was a useful feature.

Anyway, they heated up mightily quick - for Miss Boredom that was good. And they performed well. I use GHDs to straightne my hair, swear by them and happy to pay their extortionate price, because they work. But hey WAHL are good, not GHDs but at a teenytinyfraction of the cost you don't expect them to be. On someone with more manageable hair they'd probably do just as well as them, its just my unruly fluffball that sorts the men from the boys in hair products...

Now, I'm curly, and smooth and curly more to the point with no excessive fluffy hair - so we're off down the pub. Curls, with a hint of spray, look set to last all evening too!

Catch up tomorrow !

What a Week?

Where does it all go? Time I mean.... What a rushed week, we were meant to go the pictures on wednesday - taking advantage of Orange Wednesdays, but sadly it began at 5.45 or 8pm...I had no chance of getting to Kettering by 5.45 from Northampton - in rush hour.... and if I went at 8pm this week I felt sure I'd have slept through the whole film!! So we ditched the idea :-(

Tonight its a night in, feet up in front of a DVD with bangers and mash for tea. Visited Co-op today and rooted round on the reduced shelf, ended up with some lovely Aberdeen Angus burgers for our BBQ on saturday 99p for 2 - half price !! Was thrilled with purchase and will end up eating well on saturday!

Today's blog is such a ramble, head all over the place. I have had some vouchers this week for the new Ben and Jerrys Ice Cream Flavour so will be getting out the ice cream dishes for that later - over the weekend.

Talking of which - take a look at this little find, at http://www.treasureislandtoys.co.uk/ for £9.90 - A fab set for any little girl who loves ice cream I'd say!!

How many things can you get in this pouch?

I rarely fall in love with a website but today was an exception… I’d had a day out at the local garden centre, bought a nice little feeder for the birds in the garden and a meal for one out of their deli dept. (Himself is out tonight and so meal for one in front of TV with wine….bliss..)

Anyway, in this rare moment of peace in the house, and less rare good mood, I decided to browse the net.

…And discovered http://www.wahl.co.uk/ - you see if you look at my other reviews you’ll notice a flash looking hairdryer, which was from Wahl, hence me checking out their site!

Firstly before the delights of a whole heap of new products you see their intro – which says:

“With over 20 years in the UK, Wahl is a leading brand in not just grooming but electrical styling with Ceramic Straighteners, Curling Tongs, Multi Stylers and Dryers to name just a few of this comprehensive range. The fabulous small domestic appliance ranges incorporating, Cuisine Collection, Kitchen Innovations and the very popular James Martin Collection add even more depth to Wahl's UK portfolio.”

I’m thinking – lets look at the products and tbh when I saw the prices I’m thinking what can I buy??? It’s like a little sweet shop, but with no sweets but lots of nice electrical goodies to tempt me with.

You know when you look at something and its nice and err… well CHEAP is all I can say…. Then you see it looks expensive…. It’s just great isn’t it?

No cheap and nasty on this site, it’s all quality stuff…

I’m a total convert to Wahl products.

So what did I buy? OK, OK I had to buy something didn’t I? I have bought Himself a pressy, the Grooming Gear Kit.

We have a boat, and have our holidays on it, so as you can imagine space is limited. This kit contains a little treasure trove of useful items, including;

A battery operated travel trimmer, with 6 position guide comb, Battery operated personal trimmer (you know for nasal hair and stuff), a pair of Scissors, some Tweezers, some nail clippers, a Knife/File, a toothbrush in a little holder, a pocket comb – useless for him, he’s bald, Cleaning brush to keep it all ship shape, plus clipper oil and 2 AA batteries.

All in a zip-able pouch that is about 4 inches by 7 inches max – great for the boat!! Very compact, everything held in place and the pouch is nice and sturdy so can stand on a shelf on the boat and not fall off!

I have to say, I need to stay away from the Wahl site for at least a month now, cos they have a lovely new James Martin collection too….will have to find a good excuse to go back! Sadly James isn’t available to buy though.

Oooh heck - himself to watch out...

I've had a stressy stressy day, coming home to kids moaning and work still to be done on the laptop - when will it end?

I could have a good cry - and lets face it girls, a good cry does help on such occasions!! Or I could try a new tree hugging, holistic type remedy....I have acquired a pack of Korean Ginseng capsules – from http://www.omega4.co.uk/ . At £8.50 for 180 tablets - a bargain for what they are going to do for me!!

They are going to transform my life!!! Hurrah!! I must tell you I always get a little carried away when faced with a vitamin pill...

Read on... Korean Ginseng (so it says) will help with a large range of conditions including stress, depression, mental alertness, as a tonic to resist colds and flu and other infections, for chronic illnesses, to boost sex hormones. May help in treating menstrual irregularities and symptoms of menopause.

I’m hoping for help with stress, of course!!!! Tiredness and helps with menopausal symptoms...but not sure on the boosting sex hormones – ooh errr missus – not got the time for that malarkey!!

So bear with me – and I will report back soon...

Hoping they are good for stress relief, as really under pressure at work, and I don’t think lobbing the bottle at someone counts.... although...

New day new hair!!!

I just bought a new – really swanky hair dryer for under £15!! I’m amazed and really chuffed! We’re in the windy season and I need my hair to look good for work so the lightweight 1600W MAXPRO hairdryer is the perfect tool to prepare myself for any weather. It features two heat & two speed settings, a cool shot button, removable air filter and soft touch grip.

The Maxpro hair dryer comes with a salon style concentrator nozzle, a diffuser, a convenient 1.8m cord and hanging loop for ease of use.

Finished in a stylish silver satin and black outer case the MAXPRO is an affordable dryer that does not compromise on quality. It looks every bit like Revlon, Vidal Sassoon or Nicky Clarke!!

Price £14.99 - a total bargain!

Cuts down on back breaking weeding!!

This weather is great, warm sunny spring days then a little rain to dampen down the pollen from the Rape fields perfect..... apart from... weeds....weeds are taking over patios, flowerbeds and driveways once again! I decided to tackle them head on with Roundup weedkiller and got cash back at the same time!!

Whether you are a keen gardener or just enjoy spending time in the garden, weeds do nothing at all to improve the overall look of your outside space. Roundup is a multi-purpose fast acting weed-killer that works its way right to the root of the problem, killing most types of annual and deep-rooted perennial weeds, including grasses, dandelions, docks, nettles, thistles and bindweed. It is inactivated immediately on contact with the soil, leaving no harmful residues behind, great as the kids are trotting around.

I got £5 cash back on my purchase of Roundup Ready to Use "Pump 'N Go" - just great!!
The 1 litre Roundup trigger spray is a handy, lightweight option that is ideal for spot treatment of weeds. It has a unique 3-in-1 action trigger spray, giving the options of a jet spray for high accuracy, a fan spray for broader areas and a foam spray for treating weeds in flowerbeds and borders. It says the first effects can be seen in around 48 hours and they sure can, my Dandelions have almost gone from the driveway and no daisies live on the patio this eve!!

One Man's Junk is Another Man's Treasure

eBay - depending on how you view it, it's either the scourge of the 21st century or the saviour of our recession bitten pockets!

Personally in our house, we love it. Himself is in the shed, making shelves, and generally having a good old sort out, so consequentally has found a myriad of junk....errr bits of treasure... From old motorbike parts, some fenders and even a once lost sink off a narrowboat... tonight will see me cleanign all these ready to photograph and sell on.

I, on the other hand, have been in my jewellery and make-up drawers to find bits and bobs of unused stuff. Last week I sold a bag of Jessica Nail Polishes for £6.50 on the site. OK this is not much but hey they were all 2nd hand (and listed as such so no nasty surprises for a buyer!!) I never used them any more and £6.50 is better than a drawer full of tat ...I mean treasure for someone...

Plus all those £4's, £3's and £6.50's add up, a few months ago I draw £100 out of my eBay account to put in the holiday savings fund!

All I can say is - if you've not become an eBayer yet - give it a go!! You do end up walking round the house wondering what you can sell though....beware Himself...do not stand still for too long!

Cheaper than a week in Spain and safer than a week in Mexico!

The website says "Tantruth contains the latest innovations in tanning technology. With satin extracts, duo self-tanning agents and a light fresh fragrance to leave the skin pleasantly scented, you will have a luxuriously deep tan, giving you that bronzed sun kissed look all year round."

So armed with my credit card I went on http://www.beautyexpress.co.uk/ and bought my Tantruth Secret Sun for £4.95 - I decided that it was cheaper than holidaying abroad this year (and safer!!). With no holiday plans for the year ahead but a pale skinned body glaring back at me in the mirror I needed some help....

Secret Sun arrived..... I opened the pack, sniffed and was pleasantly surprised, it had a little of the 'tanning cream' smell to it but not much. I applied the cream, probably a little too liberally first time round and ended up with a few streaks. Second application went much better on day two - after exfoliation this time!!

I'd say it was easy to apply so long as a little care was taken but most of all the colour - it gave me a truly golden tan. I am so happy with the colour, better than most other fake tans I have tried.

Although the downside, at the moment I'm poorly with suspected Glandular fever....and people are looking at me and saying how well I look, purely because of my golden tan!! OOoops!! I'm getting no sympathy cos I look so well, feel terrible, but look well!!!

Spice up Your life!

We’ve discovered Heinz Tomato Ketchup is turning up the heat this summer as we have discovered Heinz Twisted Ketchup, a new spicy tomato ketchup range!

For just £1.19 we’ve found Ketchup in exciting, spicier flavours, the three new sauces - Mild Chilli, Piri Piri & Lime and Fiery Chilli are perfect for when I’m looking to give my favourite foods a unique twist.

Each distinct sauce offers a different level of spiciness, so there’s ketchup to suit all taste buds. To make it easy, Heinz has even put chilli indicators and different colours on the bottle to highlight the level of heat of each variety – just choose how hot you want to go and mix things up at meal times!

For those looking to give their food a gentle kick Heinz Twisted Ketchup Mild Chilli delivers a delicate Mexican flavour and is great with everything from classic chips to burgers or fajitas. Josh, our 7 year old thought this one was his favourite, and he’s a choosy young thing!

If you fancy being a bit more daring then there’s Heinz Twisted Ketchup Piri Piri & Lime. Packed with a unique twist of lime, it’s delicious served with grilled chicken, fish or prawns and will be sure to spice up summer BBQs – this was my personal favourite, lovely with a sausage roll!

And for Jack, 13 year old and allegedly ‘hard as nails’ Heinz Twisted Ketchup Fiery Chilli was his favourite. Putting a dollop in his spaghetti Bolognese gave it some extra punch and he nearly finished the squeezy bottle on his burgers when we had a BBQ on Saturday!

We liked the fact Heinz combined the spiciness with real flavour and didn’t just go for heat! At £1.19 we were impressed with the price too!

A pad that'll never be dead as a Dodo!

In our house a memory is a rare and almost extinct thing. Even the kids don't really have one to speak of and me and Himself? Well we're in our forties so we have no chance.

Take a look at www.dodopad.com though and you may find the solution to an ailing memory. Nope, no pills, potions or brain surgery but a fabulous book to list and keep everything in one place.

The DodoPad is a sweet little A5 folder in green and purple, nicely decorated and with jokes and little quips throughout its pages. It's loose leaf and with plenty of spare pages to note down things to remember, plus there is even space to file things you'd rather forget....BILLS!!

Each section of the DodoPad is required in everyday living, there's room for birthdays, and other general reminders, as I say room to file bills until paid, a place for holiday information and Christmas stuff so you're all ready - ready for anything!

I love the little 'holsters' for bills and notes!

This is such a girlie product - it makes loosing your memory nearly worthwhile!!
Now...where did I put my pen to write in the pad???

A cheap cut of meat becomes a banquet!

My latest purchase, as you know is a Crock Pot. Bought from Tesco Direct at £19.99. It’s a 3.5 ltr but they come in all sorts of sizes. We have finally got round to trying it out and boy do we think it’s the greatest purchase ever!

Apparently it uses the less electricity than a light bulb. You leave it on for hours in the corner just kinda doing its own thing, then when you’re hungry and want your dinner, lift the lid to an amazing concoction!

So I left himself in on his own all day and wondered what I may come home to. Now apart from the vacuuming being done, all the ironing and also some gardening.... a wonderful smell greeted me too...A joint of pork had been purchased from Budgens, for £4.00 - this was cut into 3 pieces, with 2 going into the freezer for another time (it was huge!!)

One piece was placed in our Crock Pot, with a Sharwoods Black Bean Sauce - also on special offer at 89pNow I didn't say this recipe was cordon bleu...it was only a man cooking.... proving how easy a Crock Pot is to use!He popped 2 tbl spoons of golden syrup in with the pork and the Sharwoods sauce, and put whole lot on high for four hours, which caramelised it all. Turned down to low for rest of day until I came home from work. Served up with cous cous that had had fried oinions, fried mushrooms and chopped apple stirred through it. All in all a simple yet yummy meal. And verdict from himself? And I quote...."I can't believe how easy the Crock Pot is to use. I left it alone all day and it did its thing!! It was great!" Bless him... he’s not stopped raving about it since!!

There’s a few sites on Facebook too – so if you have one and are stuck for recipes then take a look at sites such as Slow Cooking with a Crock-Pot - the official UK site on Facebook or even http://www.crock-pot.com/.

Lots of recipes you will find use cheap cuts of meat, cos the cooking is such a slow process, it cooks everything so tenderly, our prok fell apart on the forks! Buy as cheap as you like cos the Crock Pot will make it taste fit for a king!

Eating trousers on...

Oh my goodness, we ate the most amazing tea last night, pork in black bean sauce with fruity cous cous.... my new Crock Pot coupled with himself at home all day.... I could learn to love this!! Just finding out recipe for him, then I'll post it here!

Squirrel is loving artist Jan Keenan!

There’s always a birthday, anniversary or something crop up when you least expect it (OK when you’ve forgotten it!) and I needed some cards. You know the sort of thing really nice quality cards with lovely pictures but blank inside so that I could write a short note or my own greeting.

The cards will sit in my drawer at work, so when you get the “Ahhh Happy Birthday Cathy” as someone walks in and you think – oh crikey…I forgot!! You craftily write a card and pop on her desk as if you remembered all along! Or is this just me?

Anyway…

I was mooching around the Net and found http://www.jankeenandesigns.co.uk/ . There’s a selection of cards at £2.50 each, all with designs painted by the artist AND they are excellent quality. So I got great cards at a good price and supported an up and coming artist rather than a chain of card shops.
Incidentally I took a look around her site and she also does excellent pet portraits – this girl can really paint animals. Now that could be an idea for a special present.

Oh and the picture on this blog here - is the card I bought by the way - cute isn't he?

An end to sleepless nights

I have a problem boyfriend, don't we all I hear you cry??

He suffers with dry heels, no I beg your pardon I suffer with his dry heels and boy do I suffer!! He wakes up in the night saying "I can feel my feet drying out, I can't sleep" Now some of you may well be laughing, but at 3am himself moaning about dry feet is no laughing matter, I can tell you!

....actually if any of you know himself, can you not let on that you now know about his funny feet, he'll kill me!!

So, I have been on the prowl (well he can't be, he has funny feet) to find a solution. I have purchased, again from Boots (this was quite a spree I went on!!) E45 Endless Moisture Replenishing Care Body Cream. £6.84 so quite pricey but that did give you a full 100ml so not too bad.

Saying on the packet 'Intense moisturisation that lasts all day" well, lets see if it lasts all night.... log back in for an update on his feet later in the week....

And be glad tonight when you go to bed with a man with normal feet.... tata for now

Nubbly skin on your arms?

Hands up who has that horrid nubbly skin on their upper arms? Well maybe hands up is the wrong phrase, you you want to keep your arms safely covered!!

It's a woman thing apparently, no men get this (great eh?) So what's the answer? Well I[m sure cosmetic surgery is a great answer but this is a super-saver blog so no ££££ for surgery here!!

How about a remedy for £3.49 instead?

Palmolive Pure Cashmere Exfoliating Shower Scrub?

I bought my little indulgence yesterday, on a shopping spree round Boots. Got it home, flipped the lid (the lid of the tube, I ddin't flip my own lid you understand...not like I'd been over-charged or anything like that!)

Aaaaanyway, on flipping said lid, I smelled the most gorgeous scent, the fragrance of this product is simply to die for, stunning, can't say enough good things about it.. It smells like a £20+ product if I'm honest.

To give my skin a new lease of life I exfoliated with my Palmolive Pure Cashmere Scrub. It says its enriched with extracts of natural cashmere and exfoliating mini pearls, and is the perfect post-winter treatment for your body.

Gentle enough to be used every day it massages the body and exfoliates away rough dry skin, washing off to reveal a new softer smoother layer, helping give your body a radiant glow. Which is all true! I was pleased with the look and feel of my skin after just one use, then I used it again this morning and 'himself' commented "Mmmm... you smell nice!"

Well that was a thumbs up from himself too then, sigh...means I have to hide my scrub now else there'll be none left. Although at £3.49 that's not so bad if it keeps him smooth too!

Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down...

Picture the scene, you have a bored seven year old, he’s been cooped up indoors since Monday – yes I realise it’s only Tuesday but have you ever been stuck indoor with a seven year old?? It seems longer – trust me…

It’s raining again outside, so what did I do?

I’ve discovered PlayMais! Totally safe and eco friendly – cos it’s made from corn and dyed with food dyes – so even if the little fella eats it he’ll be OK! Except maybe a funny coloured tongue for a while.

PlayMais ‘glue’ to itself by the addition of a small amount of water, so no actual glue involved, plus it sticks immediately too so no hanging around – less likely to get bored…

It comes in loads of colours, and each box has an ideas booklet, we made lions and giraffes, a bear, a wolf and a huge crocodile too – it’s great!! Seven year old loved it and stayed happily at the kitchen table all morning, and I got rather involved too.

I’ve seen it on Amazon and it’s also sold in John Lewis and The Entertainer. Prices start at £4.99 for a medium pack, but to be honest once you get going you really want a large box so you get loads of each colour to play with!

Now, once your little treasure has show you his models and you’ve had them on the shelf for a week proudly displayed, then what do you do?

Well, PlayMais is 100% biodegradable so either pop them out with the recycling, or sit them on the compost heap, they’ll dissolve when it rains, promoting heaps more discussion in the household!

We ended up with birds having a little peck at ours so we looked up Maize/Corn on Google to learn more – it ended up being quite a lesson!

See www.playmais.com for more information.

Each toe a different colour?

I needed a treat…

It was my birthday and I aged yet another year so needed a treat. I’m racing towards mid-forties instead of early-forties now, it’s hard…

Being a little short of cash this month, I was pleased to discover some Barry M nail polish in my local Superdrug (I thin it’s also in Boots too). The new collection is only £2.95 per pot – can you believe?

I bought Block Orange, Fuchsia and Mint Green. Now, I fear Mint Green was a mistake as I look like I’m dead with it on. SO least said about that one the better!! However, I currently type with my fingers racing across the keys, looking nifty with Bock Orange nails. The orange is really a bright, acid tangerine on speed colour, it says “I’M ORANGE AND YOU’D BETTER BELIEVE IT OR I'LL TANGO YOU!!”

Great for cheering up mid-forty year olds…

The Fuchsia is just as good; it’s a pink that says, “If you blushed this pink, you’d keel over due to lack of blood to your internal organs.” It’s a mightily fine little pot of summer fun.

I’m figuring that for my total cost of £8.85 I have three fabulous pot of colour, and alternate toes in with zany nails will be just right for flip flops as the sun comes out – or even if it rainy outside to cheer me up.

Other colours were Acid Yellow and Electric Purple – which I feel may be on next weeks shopping list.

Hmmm…. Now that would give me five new polishes, one for each toe….

Coming back to my delicious orange fingernails though, I painted them on Saturday morning and off I went out looking for new leatehr biking trousers. If anyone has ever had to try these on in a small changing room they will know it's not easy, there are very heavy. My nails lasted all day with zips being zipped and velcro being err...vecroed and me swearing when I couldn't get into a size 10.
Nails in tact!
Well nearly, one slight chip on left index finger. So after a quick touch-up Sunday bought, boating onto the agenda. Sailing up the River Nene.... opening locks, making tea for willing helpers you name it - this polish stayed on during it.

I'd say as a purely techinical comment "It's no cheap tat!!"

The colours are delish and the staying power is second to none, you don't need to shell out a fortune on Jessica this summer!

Don't hide your bag for life! Or do!!!

Are you like me? You have all good intentions, you recycle at home, sort out the card from the plastic from the paper… and with all this eco-warrior-ness in mind you go shopping.

Taking care not to buy anything with too much packaging, looking for the recycle logo when and where you can. Then, you get to the check out and in your hear a voice says “Oh **** I’ve left my bag for life at home!”

Yep, more or less every single time for me, sometimes they make it to the boot of the car, but hardly ever to the check out queue, so all my hard work is undone.

Last week however I discovered Envirosax!! Check out http://www.envirosax.com/ to view the range. I bought a Candy one. It’s lightweight material, a little like a kagoul (you know those bright orange pack-a-mac type things). And is very, very strong, I had my potatoes in one actually.

The beauty of these little friends is… they roll up! Very much like a Kagoul in fact. Each bag rolls and then clips and becomes a tiny tube shape. So now it sits in my handbag, just lurking at the bottom, waiting and wondering when it’ll be pulled out at the check out. Niftily impressing those around me that I managed to remember my ‘bag for life’!

Donate money to charity ? In this economic climate? Are you mad??

Hands up anyone who donates to charity? Whether it’s a standing order each month or just dumping all your loose change in a bucket someone waves under your nose on the high street, things are getting tighter.

I for one have less money spare for charity, which saddens me but needs must and as a family we just don’t have the spare cash at the moment.

So recently I was introduced to www.everyclick.com – a website search engine that donates to charity every time you do a search! How cool is that?

The owners say – “Everyclick is a search engine like Google – but users can choose any UK charity to donate to when they use it. It doesn’t cost them or the charities a penny – all the money is sourced from advertising (as with Google), with money going to charity with each and every search.

Alongside the search function, you can also donate directly to charities (many of whom don’t have online donation facilities), gain sponsorship, send e-cards and shop online – with % of your purchases going to charity. In fact much more goes to charity than with Justgiving.com. Everyclick has equated that if just 10% of the UK’s online population used Everyclick.com, we could raise more than £76 million a year for UK charities.

Everyclick is the UK’s 8th largest search engine and has already raised over £690,000 for UK charities and has over 140,000 registered users and over 1 million unique users.”

I gave it a go and found it easy to use. The results were different to Google, I searched for wooden toys on both Google and on Everyclick and had different results on each, which I guess is a good thing, as I saw more retailers by doing it on both.

The Blue and Red Stripy cartons revenge..

Some may think us mad but Pete and I like to spend an evening ‘taste testing’ - OK well not really as that would be just sad and we’d need to get out more. We really do have a life, honest…

I digress… when I met Pete I knew he had a penchant for saving money by buying own brand products, quite the opposite of me who was Miss Trusted-Label and fell for all the advertising spiel that own label stuff was bad, high priced designer labels = good.

Did love conquer all? Did I talk him into coming to the dark side? Did I heck – the recession hit and I decided to curb my designer dreams and get Value Shopping…

Now, I don’t know if you’re the same, but value own brand ranges just seem, well, inferior. The stark whiteness of the packs with a low-key (cheap looking) logo affixed onto them like a beacon in your trolley. Lets take Tesco as a good example, those little white cartons with the blue and red stripy label – lots of those in your trolley scream “I’m poor!!” don’t they? Or are we all changing our buying habits and blue and white stripy is the new designer label?

Taste Test Number One

Tesco kicks off our taste test round up…

I like Philadelphia Cheese, nothing better than Philly, on wholemeal bread and a tomato – as sandwiches go, totally yummy. At around £1.49 a tub my Philly habit was expensive.

Last week, Pete was let loose at the supermarket and bought, horror of horrors Tesco Value Cream Cheese – yuk!!! I was horrified and vowed to do the 14 mile round trip back to Tesco to change it.

He suggested a taste test, so dutifully I put on the blindfold (yes indeed you get so far into a relationship and silk blindfolds are only used for Tesco Taste Tests…sigh…).

Firstly I tasted spoon A, a lovely cream cheese taste, sucked from the edge of a teaspoon. It was creamy, and had a pleasant taste to it, all in all very nice. Then for spoon B – totally creamier, much smoother without the acidic edge to it. I knew spoon B was the winner.

Pete let me rant on for a while about how good spoon B was and how I would NEVER change from a trusted brand name, and how dare he make me try…

Yeah you guessed it – spoon B was Tesco Value.

At around 45p a tub, it goes well with ‘humble pie’ ……

More taste tests to follow soon.

The Saving Squirrel

The Saving Squirrel is coming to the rescue....

This new blog is being written by a normal (well I think so...) 40 something, with 2 kids and a partner to feed - but more of them later.

We're an 'Average Joe' family, with, we think, an average income, too low to splash out on loads of foreign holidays or horse owning etc.... but considered too high to have any benefits from government - so just getting by as best we can.

So, reason for the blog? In making ends meet we're coming across - new products, money saving tips, bartering and swapping, eBaying - all sorts really, we're even doing our own 'blind taste tests' with Value products from the supermarkets (results of these to follow...)

Hopefully, you'll enjoy the read and maybe pick up some tips for your own family along the way too. Just read and enjoy!!
